They provide protein and energy for the birds all year round, but especially in the winter months when other food is in short supply. Suet pellets should be fed in a way that keeps them dry, you can use a suet pellet feeder, or a table with a roof on it, or you could mix suet pellets with your wild bird food and feed through the tube feeders. If you put your suet pellets out on a ground feeder then only put out enough for one day at a time, this will avoid feeding unwanted guests of the rodent variety!

Generally birds feed early in the morning or at dusk, so if you can put your food out just prior to these times then they benefit from the freshness this brings and you will benefit from a larger variety of species coming to your feeder.
