A veg patch?

Is this our veg patch? or a flower garden!

BBF is based in a small village in Shropshire and we live in a house with a small patch of ground that is a registered smallholding.

We are usually about 50% self sufficient (used to be 75% when we reared pigs) but this year we decided to give the ground a rest from vegetables as is needed every 10 years or so. We planted a few flowers so as to create pollinating plants for the bees and insects and we let the rest self set flowers do their own thing.

The effect is quite pretty and very helpful to the wildlife and pollinating insects. We also have a poly tunnel and we gave that a rest too (quite a lazy year for us!)so we have Strawberries, peppers, Chillies, but then no tomatoes or Carrots, so Belinda set Lilies in pots. The scent as you walk past the poly tunnel door is quite amazing.

Well I hope you have enjoyed a little peek into the Holly House garden, we have lots of things to do, including looking after our designated wildlife meadow - but that is another story:)
