Busy time for wild garden birds, feeding young chicks.
As we approach mid season in terms of wild garden birds breeding it is a very busy time for your garden birds in terms of feeding their young ones.
The sort of food that parent birds are looking for is high protein, high energy food in small pieces, you will see Blackbirds with mouthfuls of small worms and grubs, Robins with mealworms and flies hanging out of their mouths. Of course, our birds will go for the easiest form of food and so when they are struggling to keep up with the feeding they turn their attention to our garden bird feeders and boy oh boy! have they turned to us! we are filling our 12 or so feeders up at least once a day. Peanuts, Suet pellets, suet balls, and seed mixes all being devoured at a rate of knots.
Our Robin and Tit food is a perfect example of what the parent birds are looking for, it has dried mealworms, granulated peanuts and sunflower hearts, all in plentiful supply, so you will find they take the mealworms back to the nest and also if you add some suet pellets they will take these to their young ones too.
