Hedgehogs still about?

Are Hedgehogs still about in November?

The short answer is yes, but it depends on where you are in the country. We are based in the West Midlands and still have Hedgehogs feeding in the garden, but you don't have to travel too far North to be in countryside that has just had snow, so overall the last of the lighter (weight) Hedgehogs are still desperately trying to put on sufficient body weight to see them through the Winter, the larger Hedgehogs have found a home and are starting their hibernation, coming out occasionally on warm days to top up.

So we should still put out food for the Hedgehogs unless (in the far North) we are sure the weather has turned for the colder months and the Hedgehogs have gone to bed for the duration. As at todays date 15th November, we are having a mild spell for a couple of days and then a cold snap, so it is vital to leave out food tonight  and the next few nights so the Hedgehogs can eat if they are about, as come the weekend they will be heading for their Hedgehog house and putting up the shutters (leaves!) against the cold and if it continues for a week or more then that is probably the last we will see of them here in the West Midlands. Further South you may well get a mild spell and they might appear again.

Our Hedgehog food is made from Oats, Fruit, Suet Pellets Cat food, nuts and a few other nice things for them to enjoy.
