Bless 'em, the Blackbirds and Thrushes in our gardens are just one of natures high points, singing, feeding, fighting! and squawking. They just always seem to be there, and indeed they are there most of the time, apart from the period of time on the nest during the breeding season (which lasts from January to September), these incredible birds spend their time brightening up our day.
Blackbirds only migrate in the coldest of Winters and then they only tend to go to the south of the UK, so most years they are around throughout the Winter months. Blackbirds generally nest in hedgerows and so when the leaves have gone after Autumn their nests are exposed and useless to them so they find roosting places instead. A Blackbird nest box not only helps the Blackbirds and Thrushes find a safe nesting place but also offers some shelter during the cold months.
Our Blackbird nest box comes from Wildlife World, tested in the field for two years and made from SFC timber it is strong and sturdy, built to last for many years without any attention or maintenance. Being open fronted the nest box may be home to other birds such as Robin or Wagtail as well as the odd mammal over the winter. So all in all, a great addition to the wildlife provision in your garden.
