The Goldfinch finder is a low cost feeder that comes to you ready filled with Niger seed and can be re-filled too!
Goldfinches love Niger seed, it is often called the Goldfinch magnet - but if you are not sure whether you have got Goldfinches around your garden bird feeders, then it is a good alternative to buying a bespoke Niger feeder (they have tiny holes as opposed to seed apertures, to prevent the very fine Niger seed flowing out of the bird feeder) and a large amount of Niger seed, only to find they are not around. Goldfinches are around in most parts of the country and will usually be seen on wild bird feeding stations even without Niger seeds (they love Sunflower Hearts too).
One thing we have found with our Goldfinches is they are very fickle about feeding, they will come to the feeders for weeks at a time, then of a sudden they disappear for a month or more, but they always return. You need a big feeder to get the large amounts of Goldfinches (flock) and our record from a local customer is 49 birds at one time, this was on three JT-4G feeders with 20 feed points on each feeder.
Niger seed is a fine black seed (looks like tea) and is contained within a husk, so even though it is tiny the birds still have to break open the Husk and discard it to get to the seed kernel, this does mean a pile of empty husks at the base of the feeding station, unless you use a feeder tray to catch the husks and keep it clean.
