What's in a seed mix for birds?

Key ingredients for a good wild bird food  mix.

It is a good question. As with so many things nowadays we are inundated with choice, but do we always make the right choice and how do we help ourselves make the best decision? We believe information is the key to any decision, so an image of the product is a key factor, does the mix look like the description? does the mix contain of the right ingredients? how many of the key ingredients can you see in the image of the product? these are the sort of questions we ask ourselves when we make up a new wild bird food mix and then photograph a sample for our website. First and foremost the image must be representative of the product that customers receive. All of our images of wild bird food are taken by ourselves of our own actual mixes, so you can be sure the image is the same as the product you receive.

What are the best ingredients? - well it does depend a little on the time of year, but generally wild birds will enjoy a high calorific value food, so Sunflower Hearts, Peanuts, Suet, Safflower seeds, Mealworms are all very good ingredients and when you are looking at the product, see how many of these high energy (and high value) seeds are in the bird mix, as it is a good sign to see plenty of these ingredients. If there are only a few of these ingredients and a lot of Wheat, Barley, Oats, Rape seed, then chances are the birds will not be so keen to come to your garden bird feeding station.

So the real answer to the question of what makes a good wild bird food mix,is that it contains lots of all the key nutritional ingredients for your wild bird to enjoy, if there is a lot of low value seeds then the bird food mix will not perform so well.
