Hedgehogs are looking for a home in your area right now, they are getting to feel a little cold at night time and would love somewhere to curl up and be warm and safe through the Winter months.
We have found one Hedgehog in our "wild corner" (a posh name for somewhere I throw the hedge clippings) he has burrowed a hole in the front of the pile and is sleeping in amongst the leaves. I am pretty sure he will be alright there, as I have seen that he is a good size (over 600 grammes) but just in case he feels vulnerable, we will place a wooden Hedgehog house next to the place he is at and see if he moves in , or indeed if another Hedgehog decides to live in it.
Our Hedgehog comes out around 9.30 to 10.00 PM and eats all of the days food dropped by the birds under our wild bird feeding station, mainly Sunflower Hearts, so we place a bowl of fresh water nearby and he has a drink from there. He is also partial to a drop of our special mix Hedgehog food, so all in all we think he is a pretty happy chap.
Of course not all Hedgehogs and other garden animals are so lucky and it does pay to have a good look around your garden or local park to see if you can see any signs of Hedgehogs or Door Mice. If you are able to leave them a little food that is good and if you think the Hedgehog looks small then take some advice from you local Hedgehog rescue Centre before touching him, maybe take a photo and show the center how big the Hedgehog is and they will advise what to do.
