Stop birds hitting windows
Stop birds hitting windows
Prevent bird strikes with window decals.
It is that time of year again when it seems our wild garden birds become Kamikaze pilots. I was woken yesterday morning by a familiar thud and know immediately what I would find outside. The window concerned is a small one and I had not previously had any problems, but it now has a
Window Alert Decal
on it, so hopefully it won't happen again.
Window alert decals
are a translucent sticker that fixes to your window pane by static, this makes it easy to remove them for cleaning and replace them many times, they leave no mark and use no adhesive, so you can move them from one place to another if you wish. To us, the window alerts seem just a grey patten, but to birds they become a flash of ultra violet light that is just enough to warm them away from the glass. Birds see ultra Violet as a bright colour, so this makes the window alerts stand out from the glass. Wild birds tend to fly into windows because they can see through to the other side of the room and another window makes it appear like a tunnel, so they think they can fly straight through, or if it is a cloudy day, the reflection on the glass makes it look like the sky. There are a few things that can be done to help prevent these situations, close the curtains on one of the windows that can be seen as a tunnel, or place something large in the gap between the windows, if you think it is the reflection of the sky, then it is best to put window alerts in that window. Window alerts cover about a square meter each, so a patio door would need two, one top and bottom. A large window would probably only need one in the centre, but you can always try one or two and then move them around to get the best result. Window alert decals last for two years so are
good value for money.
