The Premium no grow mix is excellent if you don't care for plant growth under your bird feeding station at this time of year, containing Sunflower Hearts, Suet pellets and granulated peanunts it has all of the base requisites of the birds nutrition for the breeding season. Our Spring / Summer mix is also designed to fill the dietary requirements of your garden birds and their Springtime activity, it is a no mess mix, which means there are no husks on the larger seeds, this in turn means your birds will chose these seeds first and make less mess than a mix with husks on, as they won't throw so many seeds away. With plenty of Sunflower Hearts and added suet pellets, mealworms and fruit, with a tiny amount of fine grit this mix will provide all of the nutritional requirements for your garden birds and their offspring, which is important as the parents will brig the young to your feeding station and then you will have the pleasure of getting to know the next generation of your garden birds. Some of the young ones will return next year as well. We do get asked why we add grit to this mixture, it is the only bird food we sell that has added grit and this is because generally the birds will find their own grit (an important part of their digestive system and to give strong egg shells) for most of the year, but in the breeding season they can become so busy with daily chores they can forget to look after themselves and at the end of the season they can be weak and not prepared for Winter. So we add a tiny amount of grit (I doubt if you can even see it) for this purpose. A point to note, is to be aware of other mixes that contain grit in excess amounts - it is a cheap and heavy ingredient! we add just enough to leave a trace at the bottom of your feeder, the birds will find it easily.
