Now the song birds say good mornig

Wild bird song filling the air once more.

Every day now, it is getting lighter in the morning and there are more birds joining in the dawn chorus. This will continue until a crescendo of sound very early in the morning sometime in June and July, then it will start to calm down again. As long as we know it is coming it is worth taking 30 seconds in the morning when you walk out of your door, just stand a while and listen to what is going on - every day is different and it gives me a lift for a while just to think about nature and how we are part of it. This morning a Song Thrush was at the top of our Black Walnut tree and he was just warming up his voice, a little low note then a high whistle, a bit of a gargle then a sharp tweet. As the days go by now it will become more of  a song that he sings, to attract females and let other males know that he is around and will take on all comers. The other day we had eight male Blackbirds around our bird feeding table, now a Thrush and numerous Robins, so it is all getting quite busy around the bird feeding stations. Our Blackbirds are tempted by the Blackbird and Thrush mix we put out for them, in terms of wild bird food it has all the nutrition they need, with apple, Rowan berry, raisins and suet pellets all playing a vital part in providing a balanced diet for the garden birds. we feed our ground feeding birds and a ground feeding tray and make sure we only put enough wild bird food on the tray for the day, it usually wants a top up around three o'clock, so we just put a small handful out to last them until dusk.
