There are no points for guessing what this bird likes to do! The nature of a Treecreeper is to feed on insects and spiders, and they do this with the help of a slightly downwardly curved beak that is twice as long as most birds of similar size. They probe the bark of a tree to find their meals. Treecreepers measure from 12 to 18 centimetres in length, and are speckly brown above and mainly white below, with a long forked tail. They often climb up tree trunks in a helical path, hopping with their feet together; their toes are long and tipped with strongly curved claws for gripping. They are small and very active, and live in trees. It breeds in the UK and is resident here. They do move around a little, in the breeding season, but tend to stay local most of the year. You will find Treecreepers on the trunks of trees in woodland. In autumn and winter, and you may see them in flocks of tits and other small birds.
